Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Minister, honorable Catherine Namugala, has been short listed for the Africa Investor African Tourism Minister of the Year Award.Honorable Namugala will join six other African Ministers on the shortlist comprising Tourism ministers from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Special Advisor to the Under Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) said the Awards are Africa only initiative designed to recognize the achievements of businesses, governments, organizations and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the growth of sustainable tourism investment in Africa.
The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony on February 16 at the Rainbow Towers Hotel and Convention centre, in Harare, Zimbabwe. The ceremony will coincide with the Africa Investor Tourism Summit 2010 which will be held from the 15th to the 17th of February at the same venue.
In another development Honorable Catherine Namugala has thanked Finance and National Planning Minister, Doctor Situmbeko Musokotwane for extending the zero rating of VAT on accommodation in Livingstone to the end of the year, 2010.
Honorable Musokotwane signed the Statutory Instrument No.5 of 2010, of the Value Added Tax Act. (Laws, Volume, 19, CAP. 331) effecting the measure in January this year. The Value Added Tax (zero Rating) Amendment order 2010; refers to accommodation in a hotel, lodge or similar establishment within Livingstone District between 1st January, 2010 and 31st December.
