ZAMBIA is the perfect destination for tourists seeking unmatched tourism experience, Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) chairperson, Timothy Mushibwe has said.
Addressing more than 100 people who attended a Zambia tourism promotional workshop dinner at Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, at the weekend, Mr Mushibwe said Zambia’s uniqueness as a top tourist destination, was its location and the diversity of cultures among its people.
Mr Mushibwe said ZTB would vigorously campaign to ensure that Zambia was no longer kept unknown to the outside world as the top tourist destination in Africa.
For that reason, he said, ZTB had targeted the United Kingdom (UK) travel, trade and media for the first time with a view to attracting more tourists to Zambia.
He said the foreign media and tourists were beginning to discover Zambia as the ‘world’s kept secret’ and were beginning to spread the word.
“We want the world to know that Zambia’s exceptional diversity is setting off into a variety of attractions that are unrivalled elsewhere,” he told the audience that included 20 journalists, 31 travel agents and 16 tour operators, among others.
On overcoming challenges relating to costs of flights, infrastructure investment and development in order to put Zambia on the world map, Mr Mushibwe said the Government had put in place the necessary processes to promote tourism investment in Zambia.
He said although Zambia remained Africa’s major copper producer, the country was moving away from dependence on the metal to other economic sectors such as tourism, agriculture, infrastructure and energy development, which had become the main focus.
